Ohooho is a solely te Reo Māori display typeface, developed in collaboration with carver and artist, James Molnar. The display typeface was created to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) within the workplace.
It draws inspiration from two distinct worlds, Māori and Pākehā, and brings them together with the intention to uplift and promote the language:
The Manaia form as a Māori spiritual guardian, a messenger, and the carrier of culture from the past, present and future.
Nineteenth-century ‘Old Style’ type used by Pākehā missionaries to first document te Reo Māori, thereby bringing the language into the twenty-first century.
The name Ohooho means ‘to be awake’ and comes from the whakatauākī by Tīmoti Kāretu: Ko tōku reo tōku ohooho, ko tōku reo tōku māpihi maurea (My language is my awakening, my language is the window to my soul).
